Stephen Gale Montgomery
April 17, 1948 – March 26, 2024
Stephen Gale Montgomery, 75, beloved husband, brother, father of two, and grandfather to six, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. "Steve" was greatly loved by all who knew him as a fun-loving, sweet, smart, loving man who was always helping others in faithful service to his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Steve was born on April 17, 1948, in Sayre, Oklahoma, and spent his childhood in California. In 1967, Steve graduated high school in Salinas, California, attended Bakersfield College, and married Sherry Davids in 1970. In 1969, he began his career with J.C. Penney. He held many positions throughout his 35-year career, including merchandise manager and internal auditor. His career moved the family to many cities in California, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Texas before retiring in 2004. He loved sports, especially golf, football, and baseball.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Monte Montgomery and Emma (Barclay) Montgomery, and his granddaughter, Ella Montgomery. He is survived by his son, Adam, and his wife, Jennie, and their son, Jack; by his daughter, Erin McGriff Lehtinen, and her children, Megan, Madelynn, Noah, and Isabella; and by his sister, Marilyn Montgomery, of Mesa, Arizona.
Steve's ashes will be interred in the Montgomery Family plots next to his parents at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you donate instead to the American Kidney Fund in Steve's memory.
