Terry Edward Metcalf's Obituary

Terry Metcalf - Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Friend

Terry Edward Metcalf passed away on the morning of January 30th, 2026, at his home in Canton, Georgia.

Terry was born on November 1st, 1941, in Canton, North Carolina to his parents Lois Virginia Metcalf and Franklin Edward Metcalf. He was the eldest of their two sons; his younger brother was named James David Metcalf. He grew up in Canton, often playing pranks or getting into good-hearted mischief with his friends. He later attended Canton High School, where he would meet his future wife in the 11th grade, Emma Sue Metcalf.

After graduating high school in 1960, Terry and Sue married on July 9th of the same year. Terry and Sue would begin their married life together in San Antonio, Texas, where he began basic training. He would go on to serve in the Air Force for 4 years. After leaving the Air Force, Terry would begin his civilian life by working at National Cash Register. Professionally, he would go on to work in computer sales, and later even manage a music radio station. At the end of his career, Terry would return to sales, which brough him to the metro-Atlanta area in Georgia.

Soon after leaving the air force and returning to North Carolina, Terry and Sue had their first child together, Barry Edward Metcalf in 1965. The couple welcomed their second baby in 1972, Dana Leigh Metcalf. Terry would go on to become an amazing father to his two wonderful children.

Terry was also a man of many hobbies and interests. He was a cowboy at heart and would travel to Wyoming to work at a ranch with his friends through the years. He taught himself how to work with leather and hand-make saddles. Terry also became a self-taught musician. While he spent most of his time on the piano, he worked on the guitar and dulcimer, as well. Least of all, he became a photographer and videographer, capturing everything from family moments to the grandeur of the Grand Tetons.

In recent years, Terry, along with his wife, regularly attended church at Canton First Methodist Church, where they are a part of the Friendship Bible Study Class and have made many good friends.

Terry lived a very full life, and he will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, and his dedication to his family. The void we feel from his loss is emblematic of the meaning his life gave to ours, and that is a gift to be cherished.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Canton First Methodist Church, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM with Rev. Coy Hinton and Rev. Susan Brown officiating. Mr. Metcalf will be laid to rest at Crawford Memorial Gardens in Clyde, North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Mr. Metcalf's name to the Tunnels to Tower foundation at www.t2t.org
