Thomas "Tommy" Harold Thompson, 79 of Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Tommy was born in Canton, Georgia on March 6, 1944. He joined the U.S. Navy with a career that spanned 20+ years, including serving abroad the USS Kitty Hawk on her maiden voyage, joined the Seabees and retired as CECS with assignments to Diego Garcia, the State Department, and many other locations around the world. He dearly loved his Seabees.

The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, and Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Funeral Services in honor and celebration of the life of Mr. Thompson will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 1:00pm in the Darby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Butch Lawson will officiate.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Felton Thompson and Gusty Thomas Thompson; and sisters, Patricia Burnett, and Francis Rorvig

He is survived by his son, Tony (Selena) Thompson of Ohatchee, AL; grandchildren, Corey Thompson, Sarah Thompson, Jonathan Baxter, and Heather Combs; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Monti of Cedartown.
