Obituary

Walter J. (Skip) Lyman, 77 of Waleska, Georgia, passed away on May 24, 2024, due to complications from kidney and heart disease. Private services will be held at a later date.

Skip was born in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1947 to Kenny and Penny Lyman. He grew up in Boynton Beach, Florida where he worked in the family sport fishing business at Lyman's Dock. He attended the University of Florida, graduating with a degree in business administration in 1966. He then volunteered for the Army, attending OCS and rising to the rank of First Lieutenant. He met Kathlyn Halderman in 1972, and they celebrated their fiftieth anniversary last June together with their family and friends.

After leaving the Army, Skip started his career as a builder of apartment homes across the southeast, rising to the position of Vice President of Development. After leaving the construction business, he began a second career as a small business owner and for many years he was the go-to guy in Roswell, Georgia if you had an unusual item to pack and ship. After retirement he volunteered with AARP and Meals on Wheels.

Skip enjoyed playing cards, traveling the world, sailing trips, reading, and watching the Atlanta Braves. But most of all he loved spending time with his family.

Skip was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, dogfather, brother and friend. He will be desperately missed by his loving family who are comforted to know his trusted companions Clancy and Otis were there to greet him in heaven.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his children Todd and Heather; his daughters-in-law Shannon and Janine; and his grandchildren Alex, Allister, Savvy and Daisy; as well as by his sister Cynthia (Robert); his sister-in-law Kendra (Steve); and brothers-in-law Kent (Pam), and Kim (Delight).

The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is honored to serve the Lyman family.
