Walton C Davis Jr. passed away on May 10th, 2023 at his home in Canton Ga. He was born in 1931 in Commerce Ga. to Walton C (Hank) Davis and Julia Osbourne Davis. Walton grew up in Albany Ga. with his mother, brother, and sister. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry. He was employed as a Forester for International Paper Company for over 40 years.
He met and married his first wife Sydnor Peacock an Albany, Ga. native who tragically died eight years later. In 1968 he married Mary Elizabeth Jackson of Hartwell Ga. They were happily married for 54 years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Carey Louis and his daughter Julia Ruth, and by his brother Jim Whiting and sister Lou Davis Brown.
Survivors include his wife Mary Elizabeth, his son Walt Davis (Linda) of Commerce Ga., two granddaughters, Beth Davis of Atlanta Ga. and Carly Hill (Zak) of Lynchburg Va.
He served proudly as a Naval combat veteran during the Korean War.
He is a former city council member and Mayor of Canton Ga. He was also active in the local Jaycees and Kiwanis Club where he served as president. Additionally, he served on the Hospital Authority Board for Northside Cherokee (R.T.Jones) Hospital for over 40 years.
He was one of the founders of St. Clements Episcopal Church in 1973 and served in many leadership roles within the church.
