William "Bill"  Clarence Hill of Ball Ground, Georgia, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 7, 2026.

Bill was born in Marshall County, Alabama on July 23, 1942. He spent his childhood years in Guntersville looking up to his older brother, Donald Ray. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force at the radar stations in Labrador, Canada. After his return, he was filling in for a friend at the restaurant where his future wife was working as a waitress. He gave her a ride home in his yellow GTO, and they were married three months later. The pair raised Dianne’s two boys and their daughter together and were married for 56 years.

After moving around the metro Atlanta and Huntsville areas, he settled in Ball Ground, Georgia, surrounded by family, where he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent many years with the U.S. Post Office before retiring in 2016. Always a gentle giant, he loved Westerns, taking care of the dogs, and spending time with family.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Alicia Dianne Hill; mother, Virginia Hill; and brother, Donald Ray Pritchett. He is survived by his children, Daniel Cherkas (Lorrie) of Wadina, Minnesota, Stephen Cherkas (Susan) of Ball Ground, Georgia, and Candace Isin (Scott McGahee) of Ball Ground, Georgia; grandchildren, Nicholas Ainsley, Jessica Smith, Miranda Sherrill, Austin Cherkas, and Sean Cherkas; great-grandchildren, Charley Sherrill, Ammon Sherrill, Zachary Sherrill and newborn Stevie Sherrill; and nieces and nephews, Jennifer Martin, Danna Bailey, Tyler Bailey, Jason Bivens, Eko Fuhri, Zoe Martin, Emlyn Bailey, and Krysten Saye.

Bill will be reunited and laid to rest with his wife at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
