Mr. William Avery "Bill" Whitley of Canton, GA, died peacefully
at his home on October 6, 2023. He was born March 26, 1940,
in Atlanta, GA. He was 83. Bill is survived by his wife, Margaret
of 58 years, two daughters, Mrs. Jean (John) Hughes of White
House, TN; and Mrs. Scarlett (Chris) Ollila of Waleska, GA. He is
also survived by Louie E. Whitley and Robert L. Whitley.
Bill and Margaret have 8 grandchildren and 9 great
grandchildren.
He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1963 with a
bachelor of arts degree in journalism. He spent most of his
career with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in the Sports
Department. Next to God and his family, his main love was
college football – and especially the Georgia "DAWGS". He
would count the days until kick-off Saturday.
Bill was a member of St. Clement's Episcopal Church where he
loved singing in the choir.
There will be a memorial service on October 28 at St.
Clement's, 2795 Ridge Road, Canton, GA, at 11 am; The Rev. Dr.
James B. Stutler officiating. A reception in the parish hall will
follow the service.
