William Oscar Goodwin, age 81, of Canton passed away on Wednesday May 29, 2019 at his residence following a prolonged illness. He was born January 30, 1938 in Cherokee County, the son of the late Raymond & Mattie Goodwin. He was a life-long resident of Cherokee County. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany. He was a long-time member of the Woodstock Church of Christ, where he also served as an elder for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gayle Tomlin Goodwin; daughter Wanda (Lamar) Russell; daughter Jennifer (Brian) Chambers; granddaughter Stephanie (Jeremy) Roberts; grandson Stephen Russell; granddaughter Lacey Chambers (fiancé Will Albright); great-granddaughters Caidyn & Cayleigh Forrester; and sister Audrey Wilson.

William, lovingly known by his family as "Pop", was a Christian family man who loved spending time with his family and fishing, often combining the two. He also loved watching the Atlanta Braves.
Visitation will be Friday, May 31, 2019, 4-8 pm at Darby Funeral Home in Canton. A memorial service will be held at Veterans National Cemetery in Canton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Woodstock Church of Christ "Lads to Leaders" program.
