William Joseph Janawitz, beloved husband, father, brother and Pappy, age 78 of Canton, GA by way of Pittsford, NY passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.
Bill was originally from McKeesport, PA, graduating from McKeesport High School, while also achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Upon graduation he served in the United States Air Force from 1959 – 1964, stationed primarily at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, NM. There he received numerous awards and recognition within the Strategic Air Command as Crew Chief on a B-52 Stratofortress.
Upon graduation from Duquesne University in 1967, Bill joined the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, NY where he enjoyed an over 30-year career. In his career, he held a variety of management positions, that including living in such diverse locations as Houston, TX, Washington D.C. Lima, Peru, Panama City, Panama, Athens, Greece and London, England before finishing his career as General Manager and Vice President of Advanced Photo Systems in Rochester, NY.
Bill enjoyed a full retirement starting in 1998. Traveling with his beloved wife Jenny, throughout Europe, South America and the United States. He was an avid fly fisherman, where he could be found in the local streams of Western New York, and as far away as Alaska and Russia. He was also an enthused sportsman: bicycling, skeet shooting, windsurfing and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Yankees being a few of his many pursuits.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jenny of Canton, GA, his sons Jeffrey (Kelli) Janawitz of Canton, GA, Jamison (Michelle) Janawitz of Alpharetta, GA, his sister Judith Rosensky of Jamestown, NC, sister in law Gayle (Larry) Smith of Lake Charles, LA. Grandchildren who called him Pappy are: Jordan, Connor, Jonathan, Justin, Camille, and Jay. A niece, numerous nephews, and other close relatives also survive.
The family will receive friends at Darby Funeral Home in Canton, GA on Sunday, June 9th from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. The funeral will be on Monday, June 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church with Father Victor Reyes officiating with a reception to follow. Interment will be held on Monday, June 17th at 1:30p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery.
