William "Bill" Jarrard's Obituary
W.J. (Bill) Jarrard, one of the organizers and first chairman of the Cherokee County Municipal Planning Commission, died at Gardens of Roswell Assisted Living due to complications from pneumonia. He was 86.
Bill , son of the late Buman and Floy Jarrard, grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, graduating from the University of Alabama with a law degree, after serving in the Navy. Bill worked in management for Texaco Oil for approximately 10 years. He then settled in the Hickory Flat Community of Cherokee County in 1964 and began Jarrard and Associates, Inc., a commercial real estate company based in Sandy Springs. In April of 1965, he helped organize the Cherokee County Municipal Planning Commission. He served on numerous committees and boards all in the interest of Cherokee County, including the Impact Fee Study Committee, Citizens Round Table, Impact Fee Appeal Board and the Planning Commission until his retirement in February 2007. In recognition of "paying his civic rent," Cherokee County recognized Bill Jarrard Day on April 5, 2007, the 42nd anniversary of his civic involvement.
Bill grew up within the Boy Scouts of America organization, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He served many years as Committee Chairman for Troop 465 in Hickory Flat.
Bill was preceded in death by his son, William Charles (Billy) Jarrard. Suvivors include his wife of 58 years, Barbara Lewis McKinnon Jarrard, three daughters, Carol (George) McLaughlin of Roswell, Linda Faver of Starkville, MS, and Susan (Steve) Harris of Ball Ground, four grandchildren, Karen (Brent) Neighbors of Jasper, Tracy (Brandon) Beavers of Canton, Brandon Harris of Acworth, Zack (Jenna) Faver of Starkville, MS, and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Berma Hamilton of Clarkesville, and Jim Jarrard of Raleigh, North Carolina. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday July 7, 2013 from the Darby Funeral Home Chapel. Interment in Cherokee Memorial Park , Rev Charles Davis will officiate. Family will receive friends on Saturday 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
