William Glenn Tippens, age 81 of Woodstock passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 at his residence. Funeral Services are scheduled for Sunday, February 24 from the Chapel of Darby Funeral Home at 3PM with Rev. Jerry Clayton, Rev. Bobby McFarland, and Rev. Billy Cantrell officiating. Interment will follow in the Pilgrim Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6PM-9PM and Saturday from 2PM-8PM and Sunday from 1:30PM-2:30PM. Mr. Tippens is survived by his Wife Gerri Tippens; Sons, David Glenn(Diane) Tippens of Canton, Gerald Robert Tippens of Blue Ridge; Daughter, Sharon(Randy) Hornbuckle of Woodstock; Brothers, Billy Tippens of Woodstock, N.J. Tippens of Ball Ground; Sisters, Linda Cornelison of Ball Ground, Nell Lyon of Ball Ground, also surviving are 9 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. Mr. Tippens was a Member of The Class of '48 Canton High School and Atlanta Business College. Retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 37 years of service as a telegraph operator, agent, dispatcher, and Superintendent of car distribution .. thereafter, he worked as an electrician, humanitarian, and good neighbor as long as health allowed. Elected member of the Cherokee County Board of Education for 22 years. One of the founders and a Deacon of Pilgrim Baptist Church in the Clayton Community. Loved Gospel singing and dedicated a lot of time singing at Nursing Homes for the sick and elderly. He was a loving Husband, wonderful father, grandfather and friend. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation. The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
