William L (Bill) Wester

William L (Bill) Wester died peacefully at the age of 90 at the Canton Nursing Center, Canton, Georgia on September 23, 2015. Born in Bremen, Georgia on September 4,1925, he grew up in Carrollton and Temple, Georgia where he married his high school sweetheart, June Hart in 1945. During their 65 years of marriage Bill and June Wester made their home in Carrollton, Rome and Canton, Georgia.

Bill Wester served in World War II in the Army Air Corp. His 43 year career with Georgia Power Company began in Carrollton in 1946. He later served as Appliance Service Superintendent for the Rome Division and was District Manager of the Canton District from 1973 until his retirement in 1989.

Throughout his life, Bill Wester was active in community service, having served as past President of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, past President of the Rotary Club, Vice Chairman of the Development Authority of Cherokee County, and Member of the Reinhart College Board of Advisors. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and First Baptist Church. In 1992 he was honored as the First Citizen of Cherokee County, in 1996 was named an Honorary Alumnus of Reinhardt College, and in 2011 was Rotary Club Volunteer of the Year for his many years of service to the community, most recently his volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity.

William L. Wester was the son of the late Reuben Loyd Wester and Ruby McCain Wester of Temple, Georgia. He was preceded in death in 2010 by his beloved wife, June Hart Wester.

He leaves behind his loving children and grandchildren, daughter Julie Wester, granddaughter Anna Sophia Wester Teague, son Charles William Wester, daughter in law Tricia Browning Wester, grandchildren Joda and Todd Foster, great grandchildren, Ellie, Davis and Ford Foster, sister Linda Wester Crusselle and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial offerings in his memory to Reinhardt University or Habitat for Humanity.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon, September 30 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Darby Funeral home in Canton, and beginning at 10:00am on Thursday morning. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday morning, October 1 at 11:00am at Darby Funeral Home, Nathan Brandon officiating, followed by interment at Georgia National Cemetery.
